Google rivals Facebook’s Like button with its own +1

Google unveiled its new feature to allow users to approve search results and Web pages the same way they do it with Facebook’s Like button.

Google has launched the “+1” button that started appearing along Google search results on Wednesday for select users letting them recommend specific search results to friends and contacts by clicking on that button.

Google expects the feature to eventually influence the ranking of search results but for now results are ranked through a strict tuned algorithm.

The new +1 button is the latest move of Google to rival Facebook. It comes about a year after Facebook began offering the Like buttons to websites.
