Happy Valentines MMS is a premium SMS scam

A new scam application was developed by cyber criminals to make mobile users send SMS messages to fraudsters’ premium short number. The application is disguised as an MMS service to send a Happy Valentines card to loved ones.

The malware comes as a downloadable file called "love_mms.rar" that includes a Java archive called "jimm2010.jar" and several Valentine’s Day themed pictures with Russian file names.

At the time when a user tries to send a picture of a teddy bear that says "I miss you" or a hedgehog that says "My heart is yours" to their beloved the applications invisibly sends SMS messages to a Russian premium SMS short code number. Users stay unaware until the time they get a telephone bill with big figures.

The Java installer runs on any mobile platform that supports Java, such as Symbian and Windows CE operating systems.
