Sony confirms that it will bring PlayStation gaming to Android phones

Sony made an official announcement that it will make PlayStation gaming available on Android phone, confirming thus earlier rumors that new Sony Ericsson mobile phone will come with gaming.

The new PlayStation Suite app is not related to all-in-one PlayStation Phone of rumour. Last week Chinese media advertised the appearance of the pseudo Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, but as everyone knows such incredible innovations usually die there in China where they appear on considerations of making a stir.

But this morning Sony made the app official: it's an "entirely new initiative", said the Japanese giant, and "users will be able to enjoy PlayStation content on an open operating system for the first time in PlayStation history".

The app will be released, and content will appear, though the PlayStation Store, "within this calendar year".

In the statement the company says that PlayStation Suite will be open to almost any maker of networked devices. Sony will run a certification programme and give winning vendors a little sticker they can put on their phones.

PlayStation Suite will also be a part of Sony's "Next Generation Platform", what the company is now dubbing the gadget that will succeed the PlayStation Portable.
