PayPal partners RHB to boost e-commerce in Malaysia and Asia

PayPal has announced its first bank collaboration in Malaysia with RHB Banking Group. Now RHB allows their customers to use their checking or savings account to instantly top-up a PayPal account. And of course, now the customers can do shopping online all in real-time and without the need of a credit or debit card. In addition to the millions of merchants worldwide that accept PayPal, RHB customers have a shopping site called WorldMart that provides special PayPal merchant deals to users of this new top-up service.

RHB will be the first bank in Asia Pacific to PayPal’s Pay Anyone product (part of PayPal’s Adaptive Payments API) to let its customers conveniently send real-time payments from their bank accounts to any email address, starting on October 26, 2010. To send money, RHB customers need an Internet banking account, but do not need a PayPal account. The receiver can deposit the money into his PayPal account or open a new PayPal account to receive the money. RHB customers can do more payment activities from their Internet banking site. They can split food bills, pay for informal services like housecleaning, pay monthly rent or course fees and even send money to relatives abroad.

“RHB shares our understanding of the key industry trends that are changing the payment space and we have a common goal to provide faster and more convenient online payment services in Malaysia,” said Elias Ghanem, GM of PayPal Southeast Asia and India.
