Apple unveils its new operating system Mac OS X Lion

This week at a special event in Cupertino Apple made a preview of its forthcoming operating system OS X which will now be known as Lion. In the new OS the company brings many features of iOS to the Mac machines.

Now users of Macs will be able to access a Mac App Store, a service similar to the App Store for the iPhone, iPod and iPad. Users will be able to buy and download new Mac applications the same way they do it on their iOS devices. However, developers will still be able to offer their apps they do it now. The Mac App Store for Snow Leopard will be launched within 90 days counting from Wednesday show.

Apple explained that the Lion OS X will feature a Launchpad for launching all of the apps on your Mac. And like with the iOS devices it will have multiple pages so the user could organize app icons on the screen, and create app folders.

The company also adds a Mission Control feature which is an expansion on Expose and gives consumers a view of open full-screen apps, their Dock and their desktop. It also displays app clusters that take multiple windows from the same app and puts them together.

The Lion OS X is scheduled for the launch in summer 2011.
