How Yahoo managed to raise its market share?

As comScore’s April search figures showed, Yahoo revealed nearly a one-point jump in US search market share. Thus, after a year of steadily losing market share, the search engine jumped from 16.9% share in March to 17.7% in April.

Yahoo is conducting more searches for them automatically on Yahoo News and Yahoo Finance. For example, on Yahoo News the searches are tied to photo slideshows like the one pictured above. Each photo generates related search results which are shown below the photo. On Yahoo News alone, searches went from an estimated 17 million searches to 190 million searches thanks to this new auto-search feature.

As a whole, search query volume growth continued to slack across the board to 5.6% (against 7.6% growth in March). Google reported  its market share to slip from 65.1% in March to 64.4% in April, while Microsoft saw a 0.1%  uptick to 11.8%.

Gowever, there were other changes in measurement affecting these numbers. Backing all of those out, Google gained some share, while Yahoo and Microsoft lost some ground.
