Bing services go to Motorola’s phones

Microsoft reached an agreement with Motorola over putting Bing search and mapping services on the company’s phones utilizing Google's Android operating system.

As the mobile phone producer stated the collaboration with Microsoft means that a Bing bookmark and search widget loading on phones in the coming weeks, starting with China’s phones.

Microsoft decided to reach a deal with Motorola after the cell phone company enclosed a similar deal to let China’s consumers use Baidu, among others, as the default Web search instead of Google on Android based phones.

These partnerships come against a backdrop of Google's dispute with China over censorship, which, if it leads to Google withdrawing from the country, could cause big problems for Motorola.

Having search alternatives on the Android phones should diminish Motorola's dependence on Google.
