Internet Explorer to be patched, no more Gmail like attacks

In light of the latest events that involved the attack against Google and a number of other websites Microsoft Corp announced that it will release a patch to fix the old version of its Internet Explorer browser that was exploited by the hackers in China.

According to Jerry Bryant, senior security program manager at Microsoft, the patch "addresses the vulnerability related to recent attacks against Google and a small subset of corporations.”

"Once applied, customers are protected against the known attacks that have been widely publicized."

Microsoft acknowledged that the hackers took advantage of a weakness in Internet Explorer 6 to mount the attacks.

Microsoft said it continues to see some attacks, with the only successful attacks against Internet Explorer 6.
