Russian hackers are copartners of big Citi theft

As it became known, Russian gang is art and apart in Citibank’s tens of millions of dollars disappearing, according to US authorities investigating the big theft. Black Energy, the malware program designed by Russian hacker was one tool used in the attack.
Black Energy can be used to command a botnet, or a large group of computers infected by malware and controlled by an attacker, in assaults meant to take down target Web sites.
The security breach at the major US bank was disclosed mid-year based on traffic from Internet addresses formerly used by the Russian Business Network gang, a well-known criminal group connected to malware, hacking, child pornography and spam.
Moreover, hackers targeted the US government agency and one other unnamed entity, though it’s still unknown if the attackers accessed Citibank systems directly or through other parties.


It was not known whether the money had been recovered and a Citibank representative said the company had not had any system breach or losses.


This case is being investigated by Federal Bureau of Investigation.
