Asus elaborated on the main benefits of Turbo 33. This is a new overclocking technology it has installed on its new UL netbook series. Each of the seven 12in to 15in UL laptops which are thinner than an inch, is based on Intel CULV processors. But Asus also noted that its proprietary Turbo 33 technology provides performance-related benefits over and above those capable by CULV alone. According to Asus, Turbo 33 is able to provide an average 33 per cent boost in operating performance across the board. There is a technical possibility for Turbo 33 to boost a UL's Celeron, Core 2 Solo or Core 2 Duo processor performance by up to 77 per cent. But the company is worried that such a high boost affects system performance – specifically notably battery life. To avoid this negative points Asus preferred to make only 33 per cent improvement which are safe. Another feature concerns to file format conversion. Asus affirms that Turbo 33 can significantly shorten time of conversion giving the results of the demo technology. Turbo 33-enabled UL laptop converted a 555MB MPEG 4 to WVM in 4596 seconds, compared to 6160 seconds on similar spec machine without the technology. The boot-up time of a Windows 7 PC is also shortened from 35 seconds to just 16 seconds owing to Turbo 33. All UL series notebooks have battery lives of up to 12 hours but with Turbo 33 the running time will be even longer.
Asus’ 13.3in and 15.6in models are already available in the UK. 12in and 14in models are expected to arrive in England before Christmas.
