First Data, a global leader in electronic commerce and payment processing services, has announced an ATM deployment agreement with TEB-BNP Paribas (Turk Ekonomi Bankasi), a leading bank in Turkey. During the next three years, First Data and TEB will create a new network comprising 1,250 ATMs at retail and other convenient locations in Istanbul and major cities across Turkey.
First Data and TEB will draw on the combination of their global ATM expertise and 82 years of local market knowledge to create a premier retail ATM network, increasing ATM availability and offering new functionality to cardholders. TEB's existing customers, as well as cardholders from other banks, including tourists and visitors to Turkey, will be able to withdraw cash and use other ATM services, conveniently and securely. For retailers, the ATMs offer a new channel for communication with customers and provide opportunities to expand their service offering and generate additional revenue.
"This initiative is significant in terms of size and scale and will deliver value to our customers across the country," said Cemal Kismir, head of Retail Banking at TEB. "We are pleased to be working with First Data, which has an excellent understanding of the dynamics of both retail and ATM markets and global experience in managing successful and profitable retail ATM networks."
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with TEB, one of Turkey's most established bank brands, on the development of a new retail ATM network," said Soner Canko, managing director of First Data's operations in Turkey. "We continue to strengthen our position in Turkey, an important growth market for First Data, by offering economies of scale, high-quality technical infrastructure and service excellence."
First Data provides services to more than 400,000 ATMs worldwide and has deployed ATM programmes with a number of European retail organisations. The agreement reflects First Data's growing emphasis on expanding its ATM business globally.
"Banks are increasingly realising the opportunities presented by off-site ATM strategies and the benefits of working with an experienced ATM services provider," said Paul Stanley, senior vice president and general manager of Integrated Networks, First Data. "First Data has decades of experience in delivering reliable and technologically advanced payment solutions on behalf of customers in the banking and retail sectors, and we are delighted to be part of this far-reaching initiative."
