Verizon ceased selling its Internet Hub phone device

Leading mobile service carrier in the US Verizon Wireless suddenly stopped selling its Verizon Hub this week. The experimental device that combined a home telephone and Web applications was launched by the company at the beginning of the year in February. Verizon Wireless didn’t provide any explanation of the reasons to stop selling the device.

"We look at our products and we rotate them in and out. This isn't anything other than business as usual," company spokeswoman Brenda Raney said. "Technology is changing and there may be different opportunities available."

Earlier this year in a move to retain customers that increasingly became indifferent to its home phone services Verizon introduced the Hub saying it was a reinvention of the home phone. The device combined roomy touch screen display and Web apps like weather and traffic reports. In addition it showed
prototypes for future hub products and talked about plans to build a special app store for the device, which cost $199 and came with a $34.99 monthly fee on top of home broadband service fees.

But experts predicted that the company would not be very successful in persuading users to spend their extra money for the device especially in current tough economic times.
