What makes people turn to Twitter?
Researchers deiced to figure out the reasons that stimulate people to turn to Twitter. New data provided in the “Consumer Internet Barometer” from TNS and The Conference Board show that 41.6% of Internet surfers used Twitter to communicate with their friends. Besides, 29.1% used it to update their status, 25.8% to find news and stay updated, 21.7% for work purposes and 9.4% for research.

The research shows first objective that male and female users both turned to Twitter for was to keep in touch with friends. Secondarily, men were interested in finding news and women in updating their status.

Those Internet users who are under 35 years cared more for broadcasting their status than their senior counterparts. As for the elder generation they mainly pursued work-related purposes when turning to Twitter.

On average people who used Twitter interacted with their friends and family. This category was followed by celebrities, bloggers, TV shows, co-workers, brands and journalists. Women were more inclined to interact with friends, family and celebrities than men, but men were more likely to follow bloggers.
