In view of the recent attacks on various governmental websites France launched a new agency called the French Networks and Information Security Agency (FNISA) which will observe IT networks, including sensitive government networks to defend them from cyberattacks. Among other responsibilities of the newly-created agency will be to advise government departments and commercial network operators on best practices, and provide information about information security threats and how to avoid them to the general public, reports PC World.
FNISA will also deal with development of the trusted IT products and services for the general use of both private companies and governmental networks.
The agency was created by the request of the President Nicolas Sarkozy who is known to be an advanced Internet user. According to the reports FNISA will exist along with another government agency, the Central Information Systems Security Division, which was previously launched to warn about the security threats. Both of the agencies are to be controlled by the General Secretary for National Defense.
One agency only
