Google refashions its Gmail labels
Google recently has reconstructed its labeling toolkit by shifting labels to a more noticeable location of its homepage in order to make it more accessible and interactive for users. There will be also drag and drop function for emails to be added directly into labels.

Google’s previous Right-side Labels were abandoned. As company said, it was an experimental feature. “This is the first Labs feature we're retiring… Now that labels aren't in their own little box and take up much less space, moving them around the screen didn't seem as important,” wrote Google.

Currently labels are situated above the chat list. They are attached to the end of folders (inbox, drafts, spam, etc). As Google noted, they can be hidden at user’s will.
