Can Apple help you if you fall victim to iTunes gift card scam?
People who purchased an iTunes gift card on eBay are encountering situations where their iTunes accounts are disabled after they make the purchase using gift cards. The fact that the initial purchase of the card has been made with a stolen credit card or the fact that it has been hacked is the reason of such unpleasant cases. Even though one may be offering legitimate iTunes gift cards on eBay, the cases of fraudulent actions committed in relation to gift cards on eBay are being met increasingly. A simple quick search of iTunes gift cards presented 155 results on eBay where the price of such cards were less than their face value.

Any official statements have not been given by Apple on the issue and it was found that Apple worked hard to combat fraud after consultation with Jason Roth, Apple’s media contact for iTunes. Apple has a right to close customer accounts and request alternative forms of payment if a Gift Certificate, iTunes Card, Content Code or Allowance is fraudulently obtained or used on the iTunes Store. Roth says that although Apple reserves such a right, customers who used fraudulent cards received warnings about deactivation of their accounts after which they could have saved their tunes before the deactivation.

People whose accounts have been closed can appeal to Apple, but the possibility of them being reopened remains to be little. Therefore, customers should realize the risky nature of buying iTunes gift cards on eBay. If, however, they decide to purchase cards on eBay, they should check the seller's account history, read their reviews, and contact them directly. Furthermore, they should ask sellers the places from where they have acquired card, and whether they can send the physical card directly. The vital element to consider is whether the seller lists multiple cards with discounts over $10: the more such cards a seller has, the higher the possibility that they are fraudulent.
