31 vulnerabilities patched by Microsoft
Microsoft on Tuesday patched big number of vulnerabilities in its Windows operating system, Internet Explorer browser, etc. Overall there were 31 corrections.

Those updates were packaged into 10 parts; half of them were rated as “critical”, which is on the top of Microsoft’s severity rating. Additionally, Microsoft informed that another 15 of 31 flaws are planned to be exploited within 30 days.

One of the patches fixes 8 vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. One of such vulnerabilities allows a hacker to remotely execute arbitrary code on a machine running the latest version of IE 8 at the Pwn2Own hacker contest in March. Another patch fixed the WebDAV vulnerability in Microsoft's Internet Information Services server. It allowed hackers to access restricted parts of a server. There were also fixed several vulnerabilities in Microsoft’s Excel application.

Microsoft’s patch release concurred with Adobe Software’s security updates for its Reader and Acrobat applications. Unfortunately, Adobe fixes won't be available for Unix until June 16, giving hackers opportunity to reverse engineer the Windows and Mac patches and create exploits for machines that are still unprotected.
