Payment, ID and secure access features in one Visa card offered by U.S. Bank
U.S. Bank is piloting the use of one card for identification, payments and secure access. The bank announced that it is testing a new program with employees in Minneapolis where users can make traditional magnetic stripe purchases, Visa payWave transactions and gain access to secure facilities with a single card. Participants of the pilot test can make purchases and enter their secure work location using a U.S. Bank AccelaPay Visa Card, a prepaid payroll account.

According to the official statement of the U.S. Bank the cards contain the MicroPass 4006 platform consisting of two applications: the Visa payWave application, which allows for contactless payment at the point of sale, and the HID iCLASS application, which allows for contactless access to secure facilities at U.S. Bank.

This one card solution can be used at a variety of spaces: government, university, corporate, health care, transportation and many other institutions. For instance students may use the card at universities to get access to university facilities such as dormitories and laboratories, while also using the same card as an ID and for purchases.
