Video games are more popular than movies
A new NPD Group report shows that 53 percent of U.S. consumers have been to the movies in the last six months, whereas those who played a video game made 63 percent.

Although, according to NPD, video gaming is way behind music listening (94 percent), it benefits from new play outlets, including social networks (10 percent) and downloadable games (5 percent).

The above mentioned statistics translates to about $38 spend on average per gamer, continued NPD. If considered along with the April data from NPD on consumers spending around $160 for entertainment per person, per month, nearly 25 percent of it is spend on video gaming, following TV (cable/satellite) and Internet access.

Moreover, the research found out that 31 percent of console/portable gamers played games on a website, 12 percent on a social networking site, 19 percent on mobiles phones, and 11 percent purchased/downloaded a game to their mobile phone.

The research was held online and involved more than 11,000 respondents, with the confidence level of 95 percent.
