35% of Americans feel happy despite the recession

Harris Poll® that was conducted online within the United States April 13 and 21, 2009, among 2,401 adults, revealed that for a lot of Americans happiness and money may not be tied. Thus, The Harris Poll® Happiness Index shows 35% of Americans are feeling very happy in spite of the economic recession conditions. 

As for the groups, women appeared to be slightly happier than men, 36% vs 34%. As for the married women, 38% of them are happy compared to 34% of single ones. 

Regarding the earnings, the happiest income group is the group making between $50,000 and $74,999 (39%) leaving behind the group with $75,000 and up incomes (36%).

33% of Americans, having a high school or less education, are happy, 36% of people with some college and college graduates are happy and 39% of people with a post graduate education are happy. 

If to take age in the consideration, just under one-third of people aged between 18 and 49 are very happy. But 37% of Americans aged 50-64 are very happy and 45% of Americans aged 65 and older feel happy.
