Bush administration's connivance to monopolies no longer to be tolerated

As the New York Times reported on its website, the US government intends to make its antitrust policy tougher. Thus more pressure is supposed to be put on companies eyeing bigger market share through their dominance. The necessity of changes was better realized as during the Bush administration not a single case against a dominant firm was lodged for violating the antimonopoly law.

The policy reversal terms are to be announced on Monday at the Center for American Progress by the U.S. Justice Department's antitrust division Christine Varney.

Varney plans to say that antitrust enforcement easing during the Great Depression was mistaken as this led to engaging in pricing, wage and collusive practices that affected consumers and took years to reverse.
