Young internet users are more frequently hit by cyberattacks
A recent research shows that younger Internet users are at higher risk of cybercrime, states PC Tools, a security vendor. A recent research of PC Tools revealed that the age group which was the most targeted for the cybercrime was 18- to 32-year-olds, 59 percent of which regularly use instant messaging and 67 percent frequently visit social networking sites. Apart from these activities, 57 percent of them are engaged in online banking.

Michael Greene, vice president of product strategy at PC Tools, explained the findings: "younger people are at greater risk because of their high consumption of a wide variety of online content. The popularity of social networking sites, instant messaging services and shopping, music and video Websites make these venues a virtual open door for financial gain for cybercriminals." Green brought an example of Koobface virus that had recently attacked Facebook users.

Green suggests that users acquire the latest security software and behavioral-based protection in order to insure they are secured against cyber attacks.

It should also be highlighted that PC Tools has launched a Security Savy quiz on its 'Ask Dr Greene' Website, aimed at helping users "determine their security know-how and find out more about behavioral-based security."
