Google Android misapropriated the name trademarked by another company

As it became known, Google Inc. and about 40 other companies have been sued by Android, an Illinois software development company, concerning the violation of the trademark while using its Android name. However, Google believes the lawsuit is without merit, as company’s spokesman stated.

The other defendants are members of the Open Handset Alliance, a group that developed the Android Linux-based mobile platform.

Erich Specht of Palatine, Ill., and his company, Android Data Corp., said in a complaint that in 2002 he trademarked Android and that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 2008 rejected Google's request to use the name, reports said. Specht is seeking nearly $100 million in damages for trademark infringement of Palatine, Ill., and his company, Android Data Corp.
