Verizon to sue organizers of cable attack that cut off 100,000 users
American largest mobile telecommunications company Verizon has reportedly filed a lawsuit against vermin who destroyed a fiber-optic cable having cut this way the whole Silicon Valley from the communications, according to the Register. The investigation launched by the U.S. authorities is to determine and arrest the attackers yet.

A John Doe and Does case was submitted by Verizon with a court in California. The company said that it will introduce amendments into the filing once the vandals are found. As a result of such a sabotage caused to a section of AT&T fiber 100,000 Verizon Wireless customers were cut off from each other and the rest of the world for 20 hours last week.

The first attack occurred on Thursday afternoon and it was followed by a further deterioration of a fiber owned by Sprint Nextel. Cell phones, landlines, emergency service calls, call-center operations, credit card and ATM transactions across southern Silicon Valley were switched off for hours.

According to the official reports violators had to up some heavy manhole covers using a special tool, climb down a shaft and then chop through heavy cables. The four AT&T cables were encased in tough plastic sheath, with one cable containing 360 fibers and the other three holding 48 fibers each.

$100,000 were offered by AT&T as a reward to those who will provide information that could serve as a cause of arrest.
