Amazon restored “Brokeback Mountain” and apologized

Couple of days before, the “glitch" on Amazon.com led to thousand of books sales missing numbers. According to The Associated Press report, on Tuesday Amazon fixed the situation, returning the numbers for Annie Proulx's "Brokeback Mountain," James Baldwin's "Giovanni's Room" and other notable titles.

Thus some authors whose sales rankings were dropped received from Amazon messages contained the notification that their books had been categorized as "Adult" and were being removed from some best-seller lists and search functions. These actions displeased authors and led to a furious stream of responses on Twitter and some other sites.

Amazon still has to response messages from the offended authors. However on Monday the online auction announced the deletions an "embarrassing and ham-fisted cataloging error" and pledged "to implement new measures" to prevent such mistakes in the future.
