It has been disclosed that a hacker has dumped 318 valid credit card numbers with CCV codes and about 1,900 expired credit card numbers with CCV code of users of the popular Web Hosting Talk (WHT) forums online.
The case occurred less than 24 hours after the site had restored 75 per cent of data deleted as a result of initial breach discovered by an Australian IT worker last month.
The forum's operators, iNET Interactive stated it was still being assessed how many of the 9,561 credit card numbers existing in the system were valid. Names and expiry dates for the cards are also considered to have been under risk. The breach is expected to have affected a range of payments prior to December 2007, including premium memberships. Customers who paid using other gateways, such as Paypal, are not expected to have been affected.
It is also known that at least one local user has taken the precautionary measure of canceling their credit card.
The administration said the system was still used for sales of self-service sticky posts.
Web Hosting Talk has apologized to the community.
