Facebook announces 200 millionth user
It has been revealed that Facebook has doubled its user base in less than eight months with additional 100 million people signing up for the service.

The user base of the network now makes 200 million. For a comparison it can be said that News Corp.’s MySpace has roughly 130 million active users, according to comScore Inc.

The ubiquitous online hangout, available only to college students when it opened in 2004, has been growing rapidly since opening up to anyone who wants to sign up.

Although it is obvious that the growth of Facebook will slow down after a certain point, the site administration striving for constantly introducing changes to the service are very likely to attract even those who decided to holdout for now.

It should be reminded that Facebook had recently faced concerns about handling users' private information. Moreover, the company had announced last week that finance chief Gideon Yu former treasurer of Yahoo Inc. would be leaving, due to Facebook looking for a replacement with "public company experience".

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Facebook has updated its display of site statistics, which show that more than half of its users log in to the site at least once a day. The fastest-growing age group has been reported to be of those over 35. About 70 percent of Facebook users are outside the United States and an average user of the site appeared to have 120 "friends" on the network.
