eBay is now more than a service for selling used items
eBay executives have announced that the company has passed the stage of competing with such retailers as Amazon.com and WalMart.com, along with just focusing on people selling their used goods. The company plans to develop number of wireless applications for the company’s PayPal payment processing system and its VoIP calling unit, Skype.

The company aims at making PayPal its greatest individual revenue producer by increasing the revenues of the payment system to $4 - $5 billion by 2010, while its revenues had made $2.4 billion last year.

There are also plans of the company to change the services of the company and make it more as an outlet for liquidating retail stock. Nonetheless, considering eBay's traditional market of small-time sellers and buyers, the project might not be very successful.

Moreover, it should be noted that eBay has already been criticized for abusing its near monopoly market power by pushing its higher fees and unfair terms of trade. eBay Australia last year had tried to force its users to use PayPal only and banned all other methods of electronic payment. However, the plan had failed at the 11th hour, due to company fears of legal outcomes against it.
