Taobao sells hacked $200 worth Apple gift cards for just $3
It has been found out that Chinese hackers broke Apple's gift certificate algorithm and now are selling iTunes gift cards worth $200 for merely $3 on a Chinese Website.

Taobao, the biggest Chinese “eBay” started offering the gift vouchers for $2.60. The voucher code is received from the seller via Taobao's integrated instant messaging platform and can be used to redeem the card from a user's iTunes account, according to Outdustry, Chinese blog.

Those codes could as well be found on US eBay for $43, and cost includes a "free tutorial creating U.S. $ account." Outdustry stated the cost on Chinese market was so cheap due to the large amount of supply of those hacked codes.

Apple has not yet commented on the case. However, it is known that the company cannot change the gift voucher code generation algorithm, as in this case all the cards and codes out in the market right now would be rendered obsolete. On the other hand, those hacked codes could be present on the gift cards that are being legally sold right now and buyers could pay for an invalid card.
