Members at AOL donated $1.5 million to help children
AOL announced that its users, employees, and company matching grants were donating money to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® through its fifth-annual Thanks and Giving® campaign. The company stated its users had doubled the amount of money they donated and have started a promotional campaign with more than 467 million media. The campaign is a national awareness and fundraising initiative for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and it is usually held throughout the holiday season. AOL has reported a total of $1.5 million to have been donated to the hospital.

Moreover, there was a new web site launched within the framework of the campaign. The site contains stories about St. Jude patients. The ways in which visitors could support the hospital are also explained on the site. During the first month of its functioning, the site has already been visited 1.6 million. This is partially due to cross-promotions on a variety of popular AOL MediaGlow sites.

In order to increase donations from its employees AOL had run a number of activities including a special movie screening night, a Halloween “Scare Away Cancer” promotion, automatic payroll deductions, etc. As a result, the donations amount has increased 40% against last year.
