Amazon EC2 now runs Microsoft Windows Server
Amazon Web Services LLC, a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc, has made two announcements: one on the launch of a new Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) running Microsoft Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server in EU Region; and the second is on the support that the AWS Management Console will be providing for Amazon EC2 in the EU.

Peter De Santis, General Manager of Amazon EC2, noted that with the help of Amazon EC2 running Microsoft Windows and the SQL Server Express and SQL Server Standard databases “businesses and developers can now access and manage all of their compute resources, whether Windows-based or Linux/Unix-based, close to their European customers, partners, and other computing services including Amazon S3.” It is a fast and dependable environment for operating applications using such Microsoft Web Platform as ASP.NET, AJAX, Silverlight, and Internet Information Server (IIS). Moreover, Amazon EC2 running Microsoft Windows is priced on a cost-effective, pay-as-you-go pricing model.

The enhancements enabled eXpansys PLC, a retailer of smartphones and handheld devices to move its global ecommerce infrastructure to Amazon EC2 immediately. Folk, a creative agency in the UK, has benefited from the launch of EC2 running Windows in Europe, as well. The company is now able to use Amazon Web Services to launch a video based media system running completely in Amazon EC2.

The fact that AWS Management Console now supports the Amazon EC2 EU Region has enabled developers to manage Amazon EC2 instances better.
