Crisis impacts education priorities of the youth
2009 Junior Achievement "Kids and Careers" Poll funded by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and conducted by Opinion Research shows that Houston area teens are changing their college and career plans in accordance with the current economic situation in the US.

17 percent of the respondents stated they would apply to a cheaper college or university. One out of ten Houston area teens indicated they had changed their career plans and would go for a job with a higher pay. 8 percent of the teens were going to delay their plans for additional education. At the same time, another 6 percent of the respondents had changed their career plans to a more secure job.

Richard W. Franke, president of Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas, added, "Junior Achievement believes that work readiness skills are more important than ever. And, regardless of the state of the economy, employers need workers who can problem-solve, demonstrate leadership and who can work effectively with colleagues. Junior Achievement programs teach these skills and more, to help our young people enter the workforce ready to compete and contribute."
