By 2012 all mobile phones will have one and the same charging interface
On the recent World Mobile Congress which has been held in Barcelona, Spain it was agreed that by 2012 all mobile phones will be adopted to one universal phone recharger. The announcement has been made by 17 leading companies including 3 Group, AT&T, KTF, LG, mobilkom austria, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, Telenor, Telstra, T-Mobile, and Vodafone. Such decision has been made in a bid to become more environmentally friendly. According to the leaders of the companies such recharges will be less harmful for the environment.

According to the statistical report last year the companies have sold about 1.2 billion cell phones, equating to between 51,000 and 82,000 ton of chargers. It was said that introduction of new universal recharges will decrease greenhouse gases. Each year manufacture and transport of chargers result in throwing of nearly 21.8 million tons of such gases into the atmosphere.

New rechargers called "Universal Charging Solution" (UCS), using micro USB as the charging interface will consume less energy and can be used to recharge the cell phones from computers.
