Microsoft and Gemalto collaborate to launch SIMessenger
Microsoft and Gemalto announced that they are working cooperation to enable the mass market of mobile subscribers to use Windows Live Messenger services on their mobile devices. SIMessenger, powered by Gemalto, will come pre-installed on SIM cards.

Subscribers can now keep in touch with their Windows Live Messenger contacts on their mobile phones. SIMessenger starts automatically when the phone is turned on, and allows users to start conversations instantly. SIMessenger is intended to provide users a similar environment to that of Windows Live Messenger on PCs.

Currently, three mobile phone operators have successfully implemented SIMessenger: Oi in Brazil, Personal S.A. in Argentina and Movistar in Peru. The company also announced that it had delivered about 5 million SIM cards with integrated SIMessenger messaging application.
