According to the recent press release issued by Leon County Sheriff's Office last week they have arrested three young people from Florida on suspicion of their connection to the recent breach of Heartland Payment Processor. All three young men, namely Tony Acreus, Jeremy Frazier and Timothy John were arrested on Fabruary 09, 2009 “after using stolen credit card numbers to make fraudulent purchases at local Wal-Mart stores” and were charged with processor breach.
The Sheriff's Office says that the investigation has been lasted for three months during which it was determined that Acreus, Frazier and Johns have been using stolen credit card numbers to electronically encode VISA Gift Cards which were then used to make fraudulent purchases at local businesses, including several Tallahassee Wal-Marts. The group would then sell the fraudulently obtained merchandise for cash.
The total actual and declined fraudulent transaction in Leon County is currently in excess of $100,000. This amount is expected to be much higher as this investigation continues, says the statement.
