40% of Internet users in Britain avoid shopping online
According to the data provided by CyberSource 40% of Britons evade online shopping from considerations of personal information security. The research showed that more than 1/3 of the polled know someone who was defrauded on the Internet. In this regard some Internet surfers said that they are taking measures to oppose identity theft.

Further the survey revealed that about 70% of the respondents subscribed for credit card security programs like MasterCard SecureCode or Verified by Visa. As you know a customer needs to enter the special code along with the card details in order to make a purchase online. Besides, 86% of the surveyed say they want to see the secure padlock icon on a website before they will proceed the transaction.

“With the abundance of media coverage about security breaches, it is not surprising that some shoppers are frightened off,” said Simon Stokes, managing director of CyberSource. “The challenge to the industry is educating consumers to shop safely, to minimize their exposure to fraud. As more people gain access to the internet and realize the convenience, value, and safety of shopping online, I believe we'll see a higher percentage trying and staying with this form of purchase.”
