VeriSign reports and predicts a record number messages delivered

The quarterly index of mobile messaging statistics compiled by VeriSign's Messaging and Mobile Media division shows that the company delivered more than 224 billion. This indicates a 134 percent increase in the total messages delivered from 2007.

On top of that, VeriSign predicts 1.7 billion inter-carrier and a total of 3.5 billion SMS messages to be sent in North America on February 14. This will be a record number of messaging on Valentine's Day for the third year running.VeriSign, in collaboration with RealNetworks, successfully delivered a record more than 1.1 billion inter-carrier SMS messages on Christmas Day. Its quarterly delivered messages went up from 352 million messages per day in Q4 2007 to 772 million messages per day in Q4 2008.
