Huntington Bank hit by Heartland Payments Systems security failure
Huntington Bank customers have been reporting unauthorized transactions for the last three months of 2008, most of which were carried out overseas. The problem has been tracked down to Heartland Payments Systems, the sixth largest debit and credit card payment processing company in the US.

Investigation detected a malicious software believed to have compromised customers data processed by Heartland Payments Systems. Heartland Payments reported that Social Security Numbers, PIN codes, and addresses had not been captured by the hackers.

According to Jeri Grier, Huntington Bank spokeswoman, Huntington Bank’s computers are not exposed. Customers who reported unauthorized transactions had carried out transactions with merchants using Heartland.
