New E-Toll card by PT Bank Mandiri Tbk
The new electronic toll road card issued by PT Bank Mandiri Tbk, is expected to reduce the transaction time for paying toll road fees in Jakarta to four seconds, against current minimum transaction time of seven seconds with regular money payments. Along with shortening the transaction time, the toll card is expected to reduce Jasa Marga’s operational costs, says Budi Sadikin, Bank Mandiri’s director of micro and retail banking. “It’s costly to collect, store and transport cash to and from the bank,” explained he.

According to the estimations the number of transactions for paying toll road fees is expected to reach 1 billion by 2013, and 40 percent of toll road users are projected to be using the electronic card to pay tolls.

The new electronic cards will be available at selected Bank Mandiri branches and at the toll road operators’ offices. The top up level is from Rp 10,000 to Rp 1 million in deposits.

Mandiri plans to issue approximately 100,000 new e-toll cards this year, and more than half of them will be for Jasa Marga alone.

Currently the cards can be used on Cawang-Tomang-Cengkareng, Cawang-Tanjung Priok-Pluit and Cikupa-Merak toll roads. However, all toll roads in the Jabodetabek [Greater Jakarta] are projected to be enabled on using the new system by the end of this year.
