Theft of GPS navigation systems has increased by 700%
Federal Bureau of Investigation of the USA published an unusual statistics - a rating of the electronics thefts popularity. First position is occupied by lap-tops thefts – 109,000 during the previous year. And just 18 percent of them can be returned to their owners the specialists say.

Cellphones and smart phones occupy the second position. During 2008 80,000 devices were stolen that is 33 percent more than in 2006. The third position in such an unfortunate hit parade is occupied by TVs. It can be easily explained: updated TVs are mostly under the risk to be theft, than old heavy models, as they have LCD that makes them light in weight and therefore easy to carry. And as a result more than 53,000 devices were stolen that is 130 percent more compared with 2006.

During 2008 24,700 of GPS-navigators were stolen compared with 3,700 in 2006 that is 700% percent growth! Malefactors also like game consoles, moreover statistics shows the raise of interest in them – from 6,900 in 2006 to 22,600 in 2008, or 225 percent growth.

Concerning stealing of digital cameras, we can watch 25 percent growth for the last 3 years, namely from 15,600 to more than 19,600. iPod is also a very popular object of thefts because of its “convenient” size, so there is 91 percent growth from 8,900 to 17,000. What’s interesting, popularity of the stereo systems has down by 50 percent, from 30,800 in 2004 to 14,000 in 2008.

We can also observe a popularity of wireless access points and routers – from 0 in 2005 to 11600 in 2008. And the last position in top 10 is occupied by USB-drivers which are stolen innumerably. So specialists recommend encoding the information on your USB-sticks not to let a malefactor to get it, and of course, to make a copy of necessary data you have on your USB-driver.

Nowadays we have a number of various solutions allowing the users to track their stolen devices, especially mobile phones and lap-top.
