Norwich got the sixth worst place in the rating of card crime

The life assistance firm CPP came up with the annual Card Fraud Index. It show that the number of people that became victims of card fraud increased over the last year. Also it observed that only one in four people in Norwich were caught out.

The annual Card Fraud Index identifies fraud hotspots across the UK. Norwich was ranked sixth worst in terms of the percentage of people affected by card crime. He goes behind London, Manchester and Glasgow. London was ranked the worst city for card fraud, with 38pc of people saying they had been affected.

It follows recent warnings from Norfolk police concerning suspicious activity around cash machines. Also a number of card skimming or cloning incidents were investigated across the county.

Moreover, CPP’s report showed that 25pc of people in Norwich were affected last year, compared to 19pc during the previous 12 months.

These fraud cases caused big amounts of money losses. In fact the average sum fraudulently transacted is more than £600. However, one in ten victims reported losses of more than £2,000. Almost half of card fraud victims did not know about these transactions and only found out they had been defrauded when alerted by their bank.
According to Kerry D'Souza, the company's card fraud expert the financial crisis has affected many customers and users and caused dramatic increase in card fraud. Such situation isn’t surprising as card criminals are ready for everything in order to benefit even from financial downturn. Fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated, especially when it comes to online transactions which are a particular cause for concern.

And it is highly recommended for people from Norwich to remain vigilant with their cards and take the necessary steps to protect themselves - from checking statements more frequently to keeping sight of their card when paying for transactions. They also shouldn’t carry multiple cards in a wallet.

Those steps will go a long way in preventing fraud.
