Gemalto's card will be an official ID card in  Bahrain
Gemalto has announced that it is going to supply citizens and residents of the Kingdom of Bahrain with an additional one million new generation electronic ID card. Since September 2007 this country has had its original electronic ID system but the new program will provide it with the more convenience, security and privacy. Gemalto company takes into it responsibility to give consultations as regarding challenges and applications of a smart card so trainings. 

Being a size of a usual credit card this electronic ID card has become the official ID for Bahrain citizens, and for foreign residents as well.

New ID card has the following features:

•    Serves as an official ID and travel documents;
•    Built-in biometrics which authenticate the cardholder by his/her fingertips;
•    Contact and contactless technologies;
•    Storage of the cardholder’s medical information with all electronic medical files in it;
•    Possibility for e-driving license;
•    Access to e-gates (such as airports and civil service locations);
•    Provision for a payment application;
•    Internet access to e-government services.
