eBay never rests and never lets its members relax and go on leading their business in a routine and stable manner. This week eBay UK announced that it is introducing even more changes to the trading policy. Now the company will apply a ban on duplicated BIN listings with the new rule to be effective from January 27, 2009. In addition eBay is also revising and changing the post and packing policy.
Under the new trading rules merchants will still be able to list up to 15 identical items but only one of them can be a Buy It Now listing. In the company post eBay explained:
“For example, for a seller selling a mobile phone fascia may choose to create:
• 15 auction-format listings, OR
• 14 auction-format listings and 1 Buy It Now listing, OR
• 1 Buy It Now listing only.”
Auctions with Buy It Now listings are treated as auction listings. Yet some observers doubt if this loophole will exist any longer. eBay noticed that they will continue enforcing the new policy through member reporting. The auction will display only one Buy It Now listing per seller for identical items in search results. As long as item title will be a key factor used to consider whether an item is considered identical sellers will have to make sure that any differences in their items for sale are reflected in the listing title.
Additionally, starting from January 27, 2009 the changes previously announced by the company to the post and packing policy will also take effect. Under the new terms:
• all sellers on eBay UK will have to specify at least one domestic postage rate
• all DVD listings will have to offer at least one free domestic postage rate
• maximum costs are being introduced in the following categories: Books, Comics & Magazines, DVD, TV & Film, Music, Video Games, Mobile and Home Phones.
