Highs and lows of UT Police

The UT police achieved some good results in 2008 - from launching a special telephonic helpline to curb the drug menace to starting registration of FIRs for missing persons. However, a major achievement of the UT police in 2008 turned to be the establishment of cyber crime investigation cell (CCIC). And it has proved successful with police forces of nearby states depending on it for investigating cyber crimes. Besides, traditional crime cases such as murders, tricky affairs, terrorism online crime acts were covered. 

A computer training workshop for kin of police personnel was started at police lines in Sector 26. The training period for new police recruits was brought down to seven months from the earlier nine. Also, multimedia facilities were installed at the Recruitment Training Centre (RTC) in Sector 26. The jail administration also took the help of local non-government organizations to provide internet facilities to inmates. So the opportunities of the Internet touched many sides of Chandigarh life and improved online department area. In fact the police are launching a game about traffic rules and regulations for children received appreciation. Traffic management went hi-tech with the installation of synchronized traffic lights all over the Madhya Marg. And among other innovations of the year are eyewitness speed radars, mobile traffic interceptors and vehicle-activated traffic signal controllers. It is believed that those innovation will significantly change life of Chandigarh population to good.
