In total, more than 3 million people donated for Obama - twice as many as any other presidential candidate in history. In fact, Barack Obama has 2.5 million supporters on his page on a social networking site and more than 1.5 million people signed up at the site created just for the campaign.

These online donations made voters feel like they had a direct influence and agency in the Obama campaign, and his decisive victory.

Moreover, the Internet helped Obama to get more young supporters whose primary means of communication is Internet. In contrary, John McCain who has said he doesn't use the NET, lost the electorate aged under 30.
