 Last may the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation started an investigation into the thousands of consumer complaints from online shoppers about three post-transaction marketing companies: Webloyalty, Vertrue, and Affinion. The complaints reported about fraudulent transactions that left many of these customers with unauthorized charges. Perhaps as many as 30 million people were affected, according to a government report.
