A new research was released by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and First Data that studied data security and fraud prevention strategies practiced at small to mid-sized retailers. A total of 651 small and mid-sized merchants completed the survey.

This week online marketplace leader eBay in association with the National Retail Federation, the trade group for the retail industry, announced they would be partnering to fight organized retail crime that results in significant losses for the merchants.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation will support the partnership which is meant to help law enforcement in criminal probes and prevent crimes in which goods are stolen from brick-and-mortar stores and then resold online.

 Retailers are about to embark on the holiday season of the serious bargain hunter. According to NRF’s 2009 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch, U.S. consumers plan to spend an average of $682.74 on holiday-related shopping, a 3.2 percent drop from last year’s $705.01.
