iPhone 5 is in the plans for 1/3 of American consumers

A new survey by PriceGrabber revealed that 1/3 of American consumers want to buy an iPhone 5.

"Our survey data confirms the strong following Apple has built around its iPhone, with more than one-third of consumers planning to upgrade to the latest model only a little over a year following the release of the iPhone 4," said Graham Jones, general manager of PriceGrabber.

A Torino designer Antonello Falcone offered his concept of the upcoming next generation Jesus Phone, iPhone 5.

Falcone expands the screen size to 4.3” occupying the whole front surface of the device. The frame is now thinner and unseen. The case is made of aluminum and glass while it is just 8.4 mm thick.

The Home button placed under the screen is now a touchpad sensor surface. Instead of pressing it a user will make some gestures to operate it.

DigiTimes speculated that the next generation iPhone will have curved display. Citing unnamed sources the magazine reported that Apple has purchased 200-300 machines to manufacture such glasses.

Inasmuch as manufacturers didn’t want to make investments in expensive equipment Apple had to buy glass cutting machines itself, says DigiTimes.

And again we hear some rumors coming from Chinese media resource iDealsChina.com that is the main source of different speculations on what Apple plans to do next. This time we again hear about the next generation iPhone.

iDealsChina reported that the iPhone 5 will be equipped with two SIM slots to support two communication lines. Earlier it was reported that the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5 would feature Qualcomm chips that supports connection both of GSM and CDMA standards. It may appear that the rumor talks about this.

Draft design of the forthcoming iPhone 5 leaked the web again from Chinese sources, which means that it may be pure speculation.

Asian website iDeals China posted schematics of the device which is depicted as white-on-black wireframe.

According to the accompanying report the drawings were made for case makers to provide them with a basis on which to sculpt their own offerings.

The images resemble an iPhone 4 with a thin bumper wrapped around the sides top and bottom.

Faceplates of the next generation iPad and iPhone leaked online with some users posting the images of the parts. The images support the idea that the iPad 2 will have a front-facing camera while the iPhone 5 will be equipped with a larger screen.

It should be noted that the parts were made by Chinese vendors: the image of the iPad 2 case comes from a Chinese iPhone repair shop while the image of the iPhone 5 faceplace was posted on the website of Apple’s reseller in China.

While the actual model of the next iPhone iteration is only under development at the Cupertino offices a Chinese manufacturer has already released the prototype of the iPhone 5. A Chinese language website M8cool says that this is exactly how the next Apple’s phone will look like.

The device is likely running some OS other than iOS, maybe Android with the customized interface. According to the images and video footage Chinese developers believe the next iPhone 5 will return to its old fashion and will appear as the iPhone 3GS design.
