How to generate traffic to your adult site using CJs
Why do you need a CJ? For the same reasons why you need links pages, TGPs or toplists: all of these sites are designed to increase the traffic of your site. The idea is simple: if you want to succeed in the adult entertainment industry, you can't do it alone. You need to create a network of sites where you can place your links. As you probably know, exchanging links with similar websites is the key promotion strategy.

What do CJ and CJ2 mean?

Basically, CJ stands for a “Circle Jerk”. It allows a group of websites (called “traders”) to unite into a network and generate traffic for each other. CJ sites look like any usual TGP, but when you click an attractive thumbnail, you will be redirected to another CJ website instead of a free gallery.

The first generation of CJ websites offered very little content, promising pictures, videos or galleries to make a surfer click the links. No matter how many times you clicked, you would never actually get to a gallery. The idea was to make the surfers click so many times that they would get frustrated and join a sponsor. Or you could sell the clicks to other sites and receive a couple of cents per hit.

Now webmasters use friendlier tactics sometimes called CJ2. In order to keep a surfer from leaving the website, some clicks will really open the galleries. So when you click the thumbnails a couple of times, you can really see what you want.

The skim ratio should not be less than 50-60%, or your surfer will not visit your website again. If you set skimming to 60% on your CJ2 website it means that 60% of clicks will go to content and 40% of clicks will go to another CJ site.

Here are some examples of CJ websites you can explore (remember about circle jerk!): www.glamourkiss.com, www.glamour-dreams.com, www.sologirlsshow.com, www.hq-nudes.com, www.picshemale.com, etc. Try clicking the thumbnails and you will see how it works.

CJ sites skim some traffic off to other adult sites in return for PPC income or a site may simply be a skimming portal where all of the traffic is sold to other sites. Besides, their owners can make money from affiliate programs. As there is a lot of money in this business, CJ websites are quite popular. However, keep in mind that there are thousands of CJs out there, but only dozens of them are really successful.

CJ design

Even though surfers come to CJs for content, the design is also important. You want your website visitors to click the links, right? A nice design arouses positive feelings and encourages a surfer to use his/her credit card more often. So if you want to make money from your CJ, you need to care about its design.

Here are some key elements you need to consider:

• Favicon.ico
Favicon.ico is an icon displayed next to your URL in a browser's address bar. If someone bookmarks your CJ site (puts it in their "Favorites" menu), this particular icon will let them differ your website from others.

• Thumbnails
The secret of CJ sites’ success is an excellent choice of thumbnails. Unlike a typical TGP, a CJ has to offer high-quality and very attractive thumbnails (it is usually done by a script called the “rotator”).

While the user understands that he has been redirected to another website instead of the desired gallery, he sees new attractive thumbnails and wants to click them. As a result, your traffic growth will increase.

The best size for thumbnails is 800x600 and 1024x768. If you have bigger thumbnails, they might be enough for sexual stimulation, so the surfer won’t click them. When you get enough experience in CJ biz, you will be able to regulate your income by choosing the right content (text links, thumbs, banners, etc.)

• Index of sites/Toplist
Index of sites shows the surfer what adult sites he can visit. This tool can be even more efficient than thumbs. The reason is simple: when a surfer clicks a site from the Index of links, he/she does it intentionally. So they pay the site more attention when they get there.
Index of sites will let you distribute traffic between participating CJ sites according to the amount of traffic they send in. Besides, like any other list of links, they won’t cost you a fortune in bandwidth.

• Banners
A skillful mix of thumbnails and direct ads for paysites on the CJ will provide you consistent results. As it is known from experience, some porn surfers get tired of wandering around CJ sites and take out their credit cards to pay for membership and view porn images without endless banners and redirecting links.

CJ scripts

A CJ script is responsible for receiving visitors from a trader, and sending them the same number back (you will send other visitors - those who have not seen their adult site yet and would find it interesting).

Here are some CJ scripts to look over:
www.progress-tm.com
www.ats-project.com
www.arrowscripts.com
www.tradeexpert.net
www.gbscript.com

We have already mentioned that thumbnails are very important in CJ development. However, it is difficult to predict what thumbs will be interesting for surfers – you know, tastes differ. That’s why webmasters also use a rotator script.

A rotator script creates high quality thumbnails from specified photos and then analyses which ones get most clicks. Popular thumbnails will be displayed on the CJ site while the rest will be deleted.

Traffic trading

Place all links to your CJ sites in one place - on your Main Site (buy a new domain to create a separate site for publishing the list of all your CJs, blogs, toplists, etc). Add a link to your Main Site to your CJs so it can be seen by other webmasters. It will save you a lot of time down the road.

It also makes sense to post brief information about each site you have: a link to its registration form, a link to the home page, average volume of traffic, the name and description of sites (including niche), the size of thumbnails and the percentage of skimmed traffic, PR, traffic rank, and other details that you think are important. It should look similar to http://vivatnetwork.com/sites.html.

The next step is to sign up with several CJs that you can find, preferably in your niche. They need to have a lot of traffic to send to you, or else you could end up sending them hundreds of visitors and getting dozens in return. You can meet new webmasters on adult forums or on http://cjlog.com. CJ owner(s) will visit your site before approving it.

A CJ is an autonomous and self-promoting site. You receive a lot of traffic without any significant efforts. However, you need to do everything right from the very beginning of your CJ webmaster career. When you have just a couple of websites, it’s not difficult to check all elements of your sites and make sure they work properly. Later, when you will have hundreds of CJs, you will have to rebuild the whole network if something goes wrong.
